What to Expect

What to Expect on Your Maine Sailing Vacation

Cruise the coast in peace and quiet.

Passengers are encouraged to help furl sails.

The Schooner Mary Day offers one of the most relaxing and unique adventure vacations you’ll ever enjoy on the Maine coast. With 5200 square feet of sail moving us along, you will feel the thrill of the schooner carrying you away to a simpler time and place, hearing nothing more than the wind in the sails. When the winds fail, Mary Day gets a nudge from our trusty yawl boat.

A Maine sailing vacation with informal camaraderie.

When we welcome you aboard the Schooner Mary Day, we feel as though we’re welcoming you to our family for a while. With lots of time to chat and get to know each other while we cruise the coast, we find that friendships afloat develop much faster than on land. No wonder passengers who meet on the Mary Day often schedule reunions on board for a sailing vacation the following year.

Windjammer sailing is about simple pleasures.

Your days will be spent savoring the beautiful passing scenery of the Camden coast; reading a good, thick paperback; helping tend the sails, learning a bit of coastwise sailing navigation, or even taking a turn at the wheel of a windjammer under sail; and simply reveling in the rest and relaxation of a Maine vacation. Once we have arrived at our new anchorage, there’s time to explore ashore. Poke about with one of our rowing boats, go for a run or hike along the Maine shore, go bird watching, take an invigorating swim. After a hearty dinner, we often gather by the fire for a bit of homemade music. Before you retire, you’ll want to go on deck and pick out the Big Dipper from the canopy of stars overhead.
